Nikolay Gumilev
The Founders

Romulus and Remus went up a hill,
a wild and silent hill.
Said Romulus, "Here there'll be a city.
Said Remus, "A city like the sun."

Said Romulus, "We found our ancient honor
by grace of the stars."
Said Remus, "The past is dead,
let it be forgotten. Consider the future.

Said Romulus, "Here we'll put the circus,
and here our house, open to everyone."
Said Remus, "But the tombs, the tombs
must be nearer the house."
