You were watering a horse from your hands by the lake...

You were watering a horse from your hands by the lake,
I was watching reflections dance, shiver and break.

From my window I watched as your blue shawl unpinned,
Your black serpently curls flying free in the wind.

In my shimmering dream, there was no greater bliss
Than to steal a sharp kiss from your hot scarlet lips.

But you laughed at me slyly, and galloped away,
Just the bridle would ring; just the birches would sway...

Our sunny days’ thread breaks abruptly somehow.
By my window, they’re carrying to bury you now.

In the mournful old chant, in the rustle of birch tree,
I still hear your bridle ring softly and free.
