They carouse, fight and sob again ‘ere...

They carouse, fight and sob again ‘ere
To harmonika’s yellowish rues.
They bad-mouth again their failures,
Reminiscing the Muscovy Russ.

I myself, engrossed head over ears,
Am diluting my eyes with hard drinks
So as never to notice the lethal,
And to dream about different things.

There’s something that’s lost forever.
Deep blue May of mine! Sky blue June!
Isn’t it why it fumes so much of carrion
All about this carouse of the ruined.

Ah, how joyous the Russians are now that
Home-brewed spirits’ supply is in flux,
And a sunken nosed harmonist belts out
About the Volga and about the Cheka.

In the mad eyes, there's something rancorous,
Something stubborn in full-mouthed words.
They deplore inexpedient youngsters,
Who have had their lives rashly lost.

They regret that severe October
Has deceived their hopes in its twist.
And already a knife, safely stowed
Down a bootleg, grinds over their grit.

Gone for keeps, whereabouts are you stationed?
Are our rays shining brightly your way?
The sick bard medicates with potation
Great pox, picked up in far Kyrgyz plains.

These can neither be quelled nor placated.
Their rashness comes out of this blight.
You, Russeya of mine, Rus...seya...,
Are a land of the Asian side!
