What an absent-minded man

Once, an absent-minded man
Lived at Pooling Road, 10.

In the morning he awoke,
Set out to put on his shirt,
For the shirt-sleeve he instead
Slid his arm into his pants leg.

What an absent-minded man
From the Pooling Road, 10!

He was putting on a sweater
But was told, “Take it off, better!”
Started pulling on some gloves,
But was told, “It is not yours!”

What an absent-minded man
From the Pooling Road, 10!

For a blower hat instead
He got a skillet on his head.
He in place of winter shoes
Drew some mittens on his toes.

What an absent-minded man
From the Pooling Road, 10!

One day, he in a trolley,
To Grand Central was riding,
Got stuck in traffic shortly,
And said to trolley-driver,

"Dear trolley-diver,
Dear trolley-rider,
Dear trolley-diner
Dear dolly-driver!
Without hesitation
I do need to alight.
Could you stop the station
Right at the trolley's side?"

The driver got surprised,
And trolley stopped at once.

What an absent-minded man
From the Pooling Road, 10!

He headed to the station pub
To buy a railway ticket card.
He rushed towards the ticket office
To get a cup of iced coffee.

What an absent-minded man
From the Pooling Road, 10!

He, without a second thought,
Got into a decoupled coach,
Brought in his bags and sacks,
Crammed them onto baggage racks,
In the corner took a seat,
And went into a peaceful sleep.

“Anyone! Where are we now?”
At sunrise he cried out.
And they told him in reply,
“This is New York city, guy.”

After getting a short sleep,
Took a look around he,
Saw a platform outside,
Scratched himself and inquired,

“What’s the name of this way stop?
Bellows Falls or Claremont?”
Platform people said again,
“This is New York city, man”.

After getting a short sleep,
Took a look around he,
Saw the platform outside,
Stretched himself and inquired,

“What’s the name of this way station?
Montpelier or Essex-Junction?”
Platform people said once more,
“This is New York city, bro.”

“Are you kidding me?!”, he roared,
“I’ve been two days on the road,
But it seems like I returned
To the city of New York!”

What an absent-minded man
From the Pooling Road, 10!
