Boris Pasternak
March

Sunrays bring on sweat with deep conviction;
The ravine has flipped and gone berserk.
Like a brawny cowgirl on a mission,
Spring will make no bones about its work.

Snow is sick, its twiggy veins anemic,
Turning blue for lack of proper strength,
But with life the cowshed has been teeming,
And the pitchfork boasts the best of health.

Nights are fine, these days and nights have flourished!
Drops go pitapat in sunny nooks;
Icicles hang grossly undernourished,
And there run the babbling, sleepless brooks.

Barns and cowsheds — all is unobstructed;
Pigeons search for oat seeds underfoot.
And the life of everything and culprit —
Dung that breathes fresh air and smells so good.
