More bleakly stricken, when I’m gone, she’ll bend,
but still she’ll listen and talk her usual way:
though for the old it’s hard to understand
the things about me that the people say.
She’ll drop the slippery needle from her hand
and blotchily her withered cheeks will burn
because the man who’ll never now return
once played about her feet upon the ground.
