Two Roses

Before the gates of Eden
Two roses bloomed luxuriantly,
But the rose is the emblem of passion.
And passion is the child of Earth.

One has such a tender rosy color,
Like a maiden whose lover has made her blush,
The other glows scarlet,
Burned by the fire of love.

Yet both are on the Threshold of Knowledge...
Can it be that the Most High determined thus,
And admitted the mystery of the flame of passion
To the heavenly mysteries?
