To him who triumphs I shall give white garments.
— Book of Revelation
He tempers me — with His remoteness,
I accept the test.
I accept with resignation
His love — His silence.
And the more mute my love,
The more unattainable, constant it becomes,
And the more beautiful is my anticipation,
The future union — more indissoluble.
I know nothing of time and calendars;
I remain in His hand — I am His creation...
But to triumph — as He has triumphed —
I desire the ultimate trial.
So I surrender my daring soul
To the Creator of my torment.
The Lord has said: “I shall send a white garment
To him who triumphs.”
