Don’t let your soul be idle never!..

Don’t let your soul be idle never!
To not mill wind and be in slight,
The soul must be working ever
Both day and night, both day and night!

Chase that from house and to house,
Drag from one stage to other stage,
Through sluggishness and over rouse,
Across track snow, via rage!

Do not let that sleep long in bed
When light of morning star at face,
Do diet long and strongly that
And don’t release that from the reins!

If you’ll to that allow some aid,
Dismissing from whatever job,
Your last shirt that like vacant rate
From you no pity will disturb.

But you seize that withholding shoulders,
Do teach and torment till a dark,
To live with you yet in concurrence
Will you forever that instruct.

Both slave and daughter mights that ever,
Both housemaid and queen that mights,
That is obliged to work wherever
Both days and nights, both days and nights!
